There are never too many movie theaters around. Besides Pathe, Filmhuis, Omniversum and hundreds of home theaters, The Hague will get one more movie club located in De Nieuwe Regentes theater.

Neiuw RegEvery Tuesday starting from 1 October, you will have the opportunity to watch good old chef-d’oeuvres that marked the movie making industry in some way. First month of DNR Film Club  is dedicated to the often desperately disturbing masterpieces created by the director Werner Herzog in collaboration with the actor Klaus Kinski. Both eccentric and brilliant, these two geniuses created intense movies that are worth the big screen.

Program will start with the screening of the movie Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes/Aguirre, the Wrath of Gold  from 1972. In the 16th century, the ruthless and insane Don Lope de Aguirre leads a Spanish expedition in search of mythical El Dorado, the city of gold. A mesmerizing exploration of human obsession shot in the Amazonian jungle.

This was the first Herzog’s movie with Kinski that opened the door to an extremely turbulent and sometimes violet professional relationship that lasted for the next 15 years. Movie trivia states that the shooting was rather tensed as Kinski threatened to abandon the set, Herzog threatened to kill Kinski and then turn the gun to himself. They both survived, apparently.

IMPORTANT: DNR Film Club films are available to members only. Get membership at De Nieuwe Regentes on the eve of the movie for  € 10.00. That movie will be for free, for the next ones you’ll pay € 5,00. Be prepared for some side club events!

Theater De Nieuwe Regentes, Weimarstraat 63, KETELHUIS, Tuesday 1 October, 8:15pm
